KISHTWAR: Minister of State for Transport and PWD, Sunil Sharma convened a meeting to review the functioning of Agriculture department here today.
The Minister took stock of the various schemes under annual budget and discussed the issues related to strengthening of established mechanism for better productivity. He laid stress on-farm demonstrations so that the farmers can be kept well abreast with the technological advancements in the field of agriculture. “It is important that information is disseminated from lab to field for better productivity”, the Minister stressed.
During the meeting the Minister stressed upon the officers and field functionaries of the department including the newly appointed village agriculture extension officers to gear up and work in a dedicated manner for effective implementation of different centrally and state sponsored schemes.
Sharma directed the District Agriculture officer to engage the newly appointed village agriculture extension officers who are well qualified in their field and submit a project report for improving production of vegetables and other crops of the area. Besides the concerned officer were asked to constitute a 5-member team at every block and Panchayat level to prepare a comprehensive report on means of improving production of the area specific crops.
The Minister urged upon the concerned to organize awareness camps for generating mass awareness among the farmers regarding technical knowhow of the field. He laid special emphasis on the optimal utilisation of the available resources.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Ghulam Nabi Balwan gave brief presentation about the activities taken up by the department in the district and projected the demand for special focus to be given to the local agricultural produce including saffron cultivation in the area.
CPO Yasir Balwan, Distt Agriculture Officer besides other officers and officials of the concerned department attended the meeting.
