JAMMU, June 14: Sunil Kumar and Vijay Sharma of Jammu are among the winners of Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar and Bal Sahitya Puraskar, respectively for their literary works in Dogri language as Akademi today announced its annual awards in these two categories for the year 2019.
Sunil Kumar has won the Yuva Puraskar for his collection of short stories in Dogri, titled “Sees” while Vijay Sharma has bagged the Bal Sahitya Puraskar for his collection of poetry in Dogri, titled “Larjaan”.
Similarly, Sagar Nazir has bagged the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar for his poetry in Kashmiri language , titled “Thaer Angnesh” while Naji Munauwar is the winner of Bal Sahitya Puraskar in Kashmiri for his collection of poetry “Shurin Hund Naji”.
Sahitya Akademi, India’s national academy of letters, today announced a list of 22 winners of the Bal Sahitya Puraskar and 23 recipients of the Yuva Puraskar for this year. The Executive Board of the Akademi, under the chairmanship of its President, Chandrashekhar Kambar, approved the selection of awardees in Agartala.
While the Bal Puraskar will be conferred upon the winners on the Children’s Day, the day for the Yuva Puraskar is yet to be decided.
For the Bal Sahitya Puraskar, the awards relate to books first published during the five years immediately preceding the year of Award (between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2017). However, during the initial 10 years (from 2010 to 2019), the award may also be given to an author based on his/her total contribution to Children Literature.
The Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar relates to the books published by an author of the age of 35 and below as on January 1 of the year of award.
The winners of both the awards will receive a casket containing an engraved copper plaque and a cheque of Rs 50,000.
