Establishing a super-speciality hospital is a major project not only in terms of financial investment but in many other respects also. In particular, the most important aspect is the availability of highly experienced and qualified medical staff which has to be at the helm of affairs. Since, the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has decided to establish a super-speciality hospital at Kakryal near Katra it must have fully taken into account the feasibility and viability of the project.
What is very significant about this project is that the super-speciality hospital, which will be catering to a number of branches of medicine, is being established at a rural site nearly 40 miles away from the winter capital of Jammu. Generally high profile hospitals are established in major towns and cities and not in rural areas where some necessary infrastructural facilities are not available. Electric power, water, road connectivity, and other facilities are foremost among the infrastructural build up. Since, the project of establishing the super-speciality hospital under the Shrine Board at Kakryal has been under the consideration of the Shrine Board for a long time and expert opinion has also gone into making the final decision, we need to appreciate the determination and courage of the Shrine Board authorities, especially the Governor who is also the Chairman of the Board for taking a bold decision.
The proposed super-speciality hospital will be opened in collaboration with a reputed Health Care provider of Bangalore named Narayana Hrudayalaya Pvt. Ltd. with which sustained negotiations have been carried on for quite some time. The chain is collaborating with 27 hospitals in the length and breadth of the country and as such is reputed for its experience of running super-speciality hospitals.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine on Trikuta Hills is becoming the iconic social symbol in the State that connects it to the rest of the country with every firm and lasting bonds. More than 1.20 crore pilgrims visit the shrine annually and the number will go on increasing as days pass by. Connected with railway, Katra, the last disembarking point on a rail run is coming up as the fastest developing locale in the mountainous region of Jammu where the Shivalik and the Trikuta hills converge.
Benefits of a super-speciality hospital in this rural part of Jammu have much significance for the entire State of Jammu and Kashmir. It is reported that the hospital will provide services in more than 20 different streams of medicine and surgery, which will include cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery, neurology, neuro-surgery, nephrology, urology, oncology, pulmonologist, bone-marrow transplant, gastroenterology, orthopaedics, trauma-medicine, paediatrics and neonatology, obstetrics and gynaecology.
We know that it needs a philosophical bent of mind on the part of professional and qualified medical practitioner, doctors, surgeons, nurses, and pathologists etc. to opt for rendering service to humanity in a rural mountainous place far away from the hustle and bustle of crowded cities. The fact is that the Shrine Board is virtually trying to transform the concept of providing health care facilities to the people of the country who are by circumstances left to live a life of partial deprivation. Our doctors do not like to serve in rural areas because in regard to money earning rural areas are not that promising. This super-speciality hospital will be providing a model to the entire generation of medical practitioners in the State and perhaps in the country at large also that along with professionalism, the element of humanism and service to humanity is also required to be part of the mental set up of our medicos. We are sanguine that the Shrine Board will succeed in its mission of giving a new dimension to the health care service in the State. These appendages to the holy shrine give it great importance as a source of unparalleled social service. This is the true meaning of shrines and temples. It is heartening to know that the Shrine Board is also planning to open a Medical and a Nursing College in the nearby area and it is looking for the proper site. This is bound to change the destiny of the entire region and the grace of the holy shrine will be spreading over the people in the vicinity as well as far and wide.
