HYDERABAD, Sep 8 : Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday assured that the Congress government will ensure justice for all eligible journalists in the state.

Speaking as a chief guest at a program held at Ravindra Bharathi, where he handed over land documents to members of the Jawaharlal Nehru Journalist Housing Society, the Chief Minister emphasized the essential role journalists play in society, comparing them to doctors who “treat” societal issues.

Referring to the decision made during Dr YSR’s regime to allot  plots for journalists’ welfare, Reddy stressed that there is no need to rush such decisions. He assured the gathering that his government is committed to providing a permanent solution to the housing problems faced by journalists.

Reddy also touched upon the importance of journalistic integrity, stating that it is the responsibility of journalists to maintain professional respect and control those who misuse their platform.

He lamented that some journalists are tarnishing the profession, but pledged that the government will protect genuine journalists from harm.

The Chief Minister criticized the use of inappropriate language by some media outlets, which he said disrespects even high-ranking officials like the Chief Minister. He also highlighted the need for transparency in media ownership and operations.

Reddy instructed the Media Academy to draft new procedures to address issues such as Health Security Cards, Accreditation, and other matters, promising that the government would provide Cabinet approval for these initiatives.

He also announced a grant of Rs 10 crore from the special development fund to the Media Academy to support these efforts.

In a further commitment to journalists, Reddy said eligible journalists will be made partners in the Future City initiative and urged their participation in the development of Fourth City, the Future City.

Revenue and Information and Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MPs Chamala Kiran, Anil Kumar Yadav, Adviser to CM Vem Narender Reddy, Media Academy Chairman Srinivas Reddy, GHMC Mayor G Vijayalakshmi, Journalist Association members were among others  present in the programme.(UNI)
