Sustained development depends on quality human resource: Farooq

JAMMU, Feb 8:  Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah today said that economic development of any country depends on the quality of its human resources and the skilled manpower base which is developed through the effective education system.

“Higher educational institutions and universities go a long way in fulfilling this objective. Investment in education sector is the key to people’s empowerment, progress and prosperity,” Dr Abdullah said while addressing the passing-out students of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) on the occasion of their Convocation at Katra.

The Union Minister impressed upon the passing out students to utilise the knowledge acquired and skills gained for the benefit of the society and the country.

Dr Abdullah said that multi-stream SMVDU imparts education in a wide range of research-oriented cutting edge programmes, adding, “The university has created a strong edifice of higher learning and nurturing the competent human resource to lead in all fields of life.”

He, however, stressed on the quality and quantity aspects of higher education and said, “We need many more universities to meet the requirements of higher education.”    The Union Minister referred to the need for mitigating the challenges of global warming and said that there is a crucial need for promoting the use of renewable energy and called for undertaking the required research for this purpose in the educational institutions.
