JAMMU, Sept 9: Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL) today launched its premium 150cc bike Gixxer priced at Rs 72,199 (ex-showroom Delhi) to tap the youth segment.
“This is the first year of our entry into the youth segment. Along with the scooter Let’s, this product (Gixxer) will change Suzuki’s standing in the market and brand positioning,” SMIL, Executive vice-president (Sales and Marketing) Atul Gupta, told reporters on the launching ceremony.
Describing the features of the ‘Gixxer’, Gupta said this bike is powered by a 150cc single cylinder, air cooled engine with a five-speed gearbox and its ultra-light weight and punchy engine with cutting edge SEP technology enables it to deliver power without compromising on fuel economy. He said the ‘Gixxer’ is available in five colour options—Metallic Oort Grey, Candy Antares Red, Glass sparkle Black, Mettallic Triton Blue and Pearl Mirage white.
He said,” loaded with exciting equipment, power, handling and trusted Suzuki quality, the ‘Gixxer’ will make a statement without saying a word. It is an overall mix of elegant styling, classy on-road presence and promising performance, and will attract bikers to rev up and ride”.
Gupta said the company is looking to sell around 50,000 units in the first six months of launch. He said the 150cc motorcycle segment in India witnesses sales of about 70,000 units a month and SMIPL is eyeing about 10 per cent of the market.
The Gixxer will compete mainly with the FZ from Yamaha, Apache from TVS and Pulsar from Bajaj Auto in the premium 150 cc segment, he added.
