JAMMU, Apr 22: Taking serious note of the allegations of corruption at Toll Post, Lakhanpur, which is the only land route entry point to the J&K State, the State Vigilance Commission today directed installation of CCTVs at the Toll Post.
The Commission today directed the authorities to put in place system correction methods which will not only bring in transparency in the system but also check the menace of corruption at Lakhanpur.
The Commission, accordingly, has issued an advisory to the Chief Secretary, J&K for installation of CCTVs at Lakhanpur Toll Post immediately which has to be backed up by proper recording and monitoring to keep a vigil upon the public servants representing various departments at the Toll Post. The coverage of CCTVs should not only be for the Toll Post offices at Lakhanpur but should extend to record activities of field staff performing duty in the entire stretch where the load carriers and other vehicles are checked.
Direction has also been issued to the Director General of Police, J&K to make it mandatory to have track record checked and also obtain Vigilance and CID clearance in respect of traffic police officers/officials posted at Lakhanpur Toll Post so as to ensure that only officers/officials with proven integrity are posted there.
