JAMMU, Sept 20: Taking serious note of irresponsible approach of Tehsildar Samba, the State Vigilance Commission has asked the Deputy Commissioner Samba to ensure the personal presence of the officer before the Commission, along with the requisite report, on next date of hearing.
The Commission has also issued a notice to Tehsildar asking him to show cause as to why the proceedings for non-compliance of orders of the Commission shall not be initiated against him under relevant provisions of J&K State Vigilance Commission Act/ Rules.
Earlier, the Commission took cognizance of a complaint lodged by one Thoru Ram alleging therein that some officials of the Forest Department of Samba Tehsil in connivance and conspiracy with some known timber smugglers of the area have created a closure on land under khasra No. 96, owned by him, at village Duria (Samba) without his knowledge. The complainant further alleged that the officials of Forest Department by abusing their official position have sold illegally forest tress, planted on the land, and misappropriated the amount received from sale proceedings, causing huge loss to the Government exchequer.
In this connection, the Commission had sought factual ground report from Tehsildar Samba based on Revenue and Forest records and demarcation in the light of allegations levelled in the complaint but the officer neither submitted the report nor appeared before the Commission on the date of hearing, which prima-facie revealed that he is deliberately shielding the Omissions and Commissions committed by the officials of Forest Department.
