JAMMU, Apr 12: The State Vigilance Commission (SVC) has expressed concern over large scale irregularities and alleged corruption in MGNREGA funds by some employees of Rural Development Department in league with others at block Tangmarg in Baramulla. It has summoned Additional Deputy Commissioner (DVO) Baramulla in connection with the case.
An official handover issued by the SVC said a complaint was lodged by one Abdul Salam Dar regarding embezzlement and misappropriation of funds allocated for execution of various developmental works in Panchayat Halqas Chandil, Wanigam, Pati-Ganiwani, Pati-Muchekhud etc in Tangmarg by a Village Level Worker (VLW) in connivance and conspiracy with a police official and another Government employee.
Besides, the handout said, owing to mismanagement and poor supervision by the officers/officials concerned, the funds allocated under IAY and SBA Schemes have been distributed arbitrarily and unfairly, ignoring deserving and real beneficiaries thereby defeating the real objective of the schemes, directed the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla to enquire into the matter and submit enquiry report thereof to the Commission.
The report submitted before the Commission prima-facie revealed that huge funds have been drawn dishonestly by the officers/officials of the Department against non-existing and fictitious works under MGNREGA.
The payments under the schemes of IAY and SBA had been distributed by the officers/officials without taking into consideration the economic condition of the recipients for conferring undue benefits to some specific persons and ignoring the genuine beneficiaries.
“The acts of omission and commission established misuse of official position by the concerned public servants and huge loss to the State exchequer,’’ the handout said.
The SVC while taking serious note of misappropriation of Government funds at the hands of public servants, has summoned the ADC (District Vigilance Officer) Baramulla before the Commission on April 18 along with BDO Tangmarg with the relevant records for taking further action against the involved public servants and illegal beneficiaries.
