JAMMU, Dec 25: Shree Vishwakarma Library & Research Centre (SVLARC) here today paid floral tribute to Giani Zail Singh, former President of India on his 30th death anniversary.
Speaking on this occasion, Convener of the Library, Ramesh Angotra said that Giani Zail Singh was born on May 5, 1916, in a small village near Kot Kapura, formerly princely State of Faridkot and his father was village carpenter while Zail Singh lost his mother at an early age.
Madan Chalotra, OBC leader said, in 1949, when a non-party government was established, Giani Zail Singh became the Revenue Minister.
“Then after the elections in 1951, Congress formed government on 23 May 1951and he became Agriculture Minister. In 1982 Giani Zail Singh was unanimously elected by Congress party as President of India and he died on December 25, 1994.”
On this occasion Balwant Kataria donated copies of the book ‘The Rights of Man’ written by Thomas Paine.
Om Kataria and Joginder Angotra were organizers of the event.
Prominent among others who participated in the event were Charanjeet Chargotra, Kewal Krishan Fotra, president Sain community; Kuldeep Chalotra, president OBC Chetna Manch; Brij Lal, Suresh Dogra, Mohinder Lal, Rattan Lal, Meenakshi Dhiman, Divyansh Dhiman and Janvi Krotra.
