JAMMU, Jan 1: The State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) today apprehended a Junior Assistant of SDM office, Uri in Baramulla district of Kashmir red handed while demanding and accepting Rs 5000 worth corruption from a civilian while settling his compensation cases. The accused has been identified as Abdul Qayoom Khan son of Ghulam Mohammad Khan R/o Nambla, Uri.
A Vigilance team accompanied by Magistrate and independent witnesses apprehended the official as soon as he accepted the corruption amount from one Lal Din.
The official had demanded corruption from Lal Din for settling his compensation case on account of felling of walnut trees for construction of road at Balkote, Uri.
The compensation had been prepared to the tune of Rs 1.23 lakh. The compensation papers were lying in the office of the SDM Uri. The Junior Assistant was delaying payment of compensation demanding gratification.
The SVO have registered a case against the accused officials. It recovered the corruption amount from him after he was taken into custody.
