JAMMU, Jan 9: The State Vigilance Organization (SVO) today carried out Joint Surprise Check (JSC) at Narwal Fruit Mandi and seized large quantity of Chinese made Ethylene Ripener, which was being used to increase weight of the fruits.
Sources said the Vigilance Organization had reports that some fruit merchants were using Ethylene Ripener to raise weight of fruits in Narwal Fruit Mandi and to check the menace, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Mandeep K Bhandari had constituted joint team of Jammu Municipal Corporation, Agriculture and Marketing and Drug Control.
The SVO team got inputs and carried out the Joint Surprise Check during which they found that most of the shopkeepers were using Ethylene Ripener, which was reportedly harmful for the people’s health.
The SVO team would also take opinion on whether the Ripener was really harmful and to what extent, based on which further action will be taken.
