REASI, Nov 13: One day Swacch Ban Ganga Abhiyaan under the 5th edition of ‘Save The Trikuta Mountains’ awareness campaign series was organized by International Volunteer Foundation (IVF) in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) Katra and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Kakryal.
A rally of students and volunteers was flagged off by Piyush Singla, Additional CEO, SMVDSB from Spiritual Growth Centre (SGC), Katra.
Speaking on the occasion, the Additional CEO gave details of the various initiatives taken by the Shrine Board for ensuring sanitation and cleanliness along the tracks, conservation of environment and ecology of the Trikuta Hills and keeping Banganga clean. He also referred to the measures being taken by the Board for implementing green technologies in a big way, promoting use of solar energy, setting up of a number of Sewage Treatment Plants on the track, in the Bhawan area and at different complexes of the Board.
The participants of the Abhiyaan enlarged the awareness among the pilgrims, shopkeepers and the public at large about the crucial need for conservation of environment and ecology of the Trikuta Hills and keeping Banganga clean.
Kiran Kumar Sharma, Chairman IVF and Founder of ‘Save The Trikuta Mountains’ briefed the students about this year’s theme Swacch Ban Ganga Abhiyaan. He highlighted the importance of awareness campaigns and role of students in development of society.
The students and volunteers marched from SGC Katra to Ban Ganga and sought public attention with slogans on Swacch Ban Ganga. Besides, Cleanliness drive was launched at bathing ghats at Ban Ganga.
Later, students and volunteers conducted door to door awareness campaign upto village Daroor and urged the locals and shopkeepers not to throw waste in the holy Ban Ganga and use dustbin installed by the shrine board.
Among those present on the occasion were Amit Vermani, Deputy CEO, SMVDSB, other officers and staff of the Shrine Board, Ganesh Singh, Executive Member IVF, and Dheeraj Mahajan, Member IVF.
