This refers to article titled ‘Swachhta will be Seva through scientific waste management’ (DE 20/9/2018) . The writer has once again projected the issue of scientific waste management which is need of the hour now. Unless scientific approach towards waste management is taken into consideration we cannot make Jammu and Kashmir a clean and green state. Waste management is not lifting of garbage and dumping it at some other location. What about the location where the waste is dumped? With the increase in population in Srinagar and Jammu cities we have very limited space left for dumping the garbage. Even our landfill sites are overflowed with trash. The only way out is waste segregation and its processing through various scientific techniques. Those who have some land need not to dump waste in municipal dumpers and vehicles, but they must make compost out of it within the courtyard of the house. This is a behavioral change that has to be adopted by us now. Municipal authorities too need to make sure that solid waste is disposed off in a scientific manner, then only it can be a seva otherwise it will be curse for future generations.
