SRINAGAR, Dec 16:  Communist Party of India (M) State Secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has asked the Social Welfare Department to speed up the disposal of these cases so that various flagship programmes reach to the needy people.
Quoting Tarigami, a statement from his party said the State Government must go for a one time exercise to cover all the needy and deserving people under the Central Government’s various flagship programmes.
“Hundreds of financial assistance cases of widows, orphans, old aged people and handicapped persons are pending for the last many months before social welfare offices in different districts for unknown reasons. What will these needy people do to that meager amount if it is not provided to them in time,” Tarigami asked.
Tarigami said it was a disgrace for a welfare state if it could not review its budget allocation for the destitute and instead spend huge sums on bleak areas.
He called for a comprehensive policy for the disabled to evolve, develop and focus on measures to build capacities among this miserable lot for their dignified living and equal opportunities to progress and development.
