SRINAGAR, Sept 12: Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo today said that the Government has accorded sanction to 689,20 fresh pension cases under Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS) in favour of old aged persons, widows and physically challenged persons having meagre or no source of income.
Giving break-up of the cases, the Minister said the cases are including pension to 32500 old aged, 18253 widows and 18167 physically challenged persons. She said that the Social Welfare Department (SWD) has already been providing pension to around 5 lakh persons, which includes 1.37 lakh under NSAP and 3.54 lakh under ISSS, saying that with the sanction of these new cases, the figure of pension cases raised to more than 5.6 lakh.
Ms. Sakina said with the sanction of these pension cases the Coalition Government has fulfilled the long pending demand of deserving beneficiaries, besides achieving one more milestone.  She directed the field functionaries that they should consider the cases of only those eligible beneficiaries, who had applied for the last three years, adding that they should be attended on first come first serve basis. She said that the matter regarding pending cases under NSAP, a Centrally sponsored scheme, has already been taken up with the Union Government and hoped that these would be cleared soon.
