Jammu, Aug 21: On the eve of Raksha Bandhan, a team of Food Safety Officers under the supervision of Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Jammu conducted special drive in the city for sweets shops and halwai with the objective to ensure that safe and nutritious food items are sold to the customers in Jammu city.
Various sweets shops were inspected. Team lifted samples of sweets such as ladoos, barfi, khoya, coconut barfi, rasgullas, packed biscuits and gift items for analytical purposes which were sent to food testing lab.
Team challaned Bikaner Sweets Shop, Mahajan Sweets Shop, Canal Road, Bikaner Sweets Shop, Channi Himmat, workshop for sweets near Gujjar Charitable Trust as he was running the business under unhygienic and insanitary conditions, Som Raj General Store, Narwal Road and Jamwal Vaishno Dhabha, Channi Rama Transport Nagar.
All shopkeepers were directed to maintain their premises neat and clean and under hygienic conditions.
Food Safety Officers provided awreness regarding food safety and preventive measures to be adopted in order to prevent cross-contamination .
Further it is appealed to the customers to check the products before buying any kind of sweets or food article ,check the labels of the products and try to buy after looking inside the boxes of sweets packet.
