Sweets shop sealed after children fall ill

SRINAGAR, Mar 12: Jammu and Kashmir Food and Drug Control Department today sealed a sweets shop and a manufacturing unit after two children fell ill by consuming a sweet dish ( Ras Malai) at Bemina on the city outskirts.
Assistant Commissioner Food, Hilal Ahmad Mir, said after receiving specific information about two children being hospitalized as they had consumed Ras Malai purchased from Modern Sweets at Bemina, they raided the shop immediately and seized the food item.
“The sweet dishes were being served without any proper package, package dates and other necessary information as prescribed by the law,” he said.
Hilal said the shopkeeper revealed that the sweet was manufactured by AAG GEE Sweets at Naid Kadal in downtown city. “We have also sealed the manufacturing unit and sent the samples to our testing lab,” he added.
