JAMMU, Sept 14: Sikh Youth of Jammu and Kashmir (SYJK) today demanded inclusion of Punjabi language in Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Bill 2020.
They termed the recently introduced Officials Languages Bill as discriminatory and demanded its roll back till the sentiments of all the stakeholders aren’t addressed.
“Punjabi is being taught in school, colleges and universities and even JK Academy of Arts, Culture and Languages has full-fledged Punjabi section to promote the Punjabi language but the present Government has not included it in the Officials Languages bill,” said chairman of the SYJK, Varinder Singh Sonu.
He further said that non-inclusion of the language in the list of officials languages in J&K is deeply hurting the sentiments of Sikh community.
“They don’t have any grudge against any language but at the same time they would not allow any discrimination with the Punjabi,” Sonu said while addressing media persons in Jammu.
