JAMMU, May 26: On the eve of International Day of Yoga, a symposium on definition, symptoms, causes and treatment of Diabetes was organized today at Environmental Park, Raika.
The Symposium was part of the one-month-long Yoga Sessions being organized by Vichar Kranti Manch International and Indian Yoga Association, supported by Sarv Uthan Trust.
Kavinder Gupta (former Deputy Chief Minister) was chief guest on the occasion while Pt Chander Mouli Raina (vice president, Vidwat Parishad) was guest of honour. Rattan Lal Mahajan (Advisor VKMI and former president of Warehouse & Nehru Market Federation) presided over the event.
The program started with Vedic prayer by PN Jalla (Yogacharya & former PS to the then J&K Finance Minister). Chander Mohan Sharma (general secretary, VKMI) presented welcome address while Dr Shreyansh Kumar Jain (State Yoga Commissioner, president VKMI and State Chairman, Indian Yoga Association) explained details of the symposium.
Yogasans were practiced by PN Jalla, Jitender Gupta, Angrej Singh, Vireshwar Singh, Abhinandan Jain and Anupma Puri to prevent and cure Diabetes. Arun Pachnanda (advisor VKMI & vice president, Bhartiya Yog Sansthan) practiced Pranayama.
Dr Jain explained the symptoms and causes of diabetes. He said frequent urination, fatigue, blurred vision, increased thirst & dry mouth, weight loss, numbness or tingling in hands or feet, slow healing of sores or cuts, frequent skin infections or vaginally yeast infections are symptoms of diabetes. He said various factors responsible for diabetes include obesity, lack of physical activity, diet, hormonal imbalance, genetics and certain medicines.
Yogasans, including Janushirasan, Pashchimotan, Ardhmatsyender, Kon, Shashank, Hal, Shalabh, Sarvang and Suryanamaskar were practiced on the occasion. Meditation was practiced by Kuldip, a preceptor from Brahma Kumaris. Ashok Gupta explained importance and significance of Hasya Yoga while Dr Shreyansh gave some advisory about homemade medicines. K S Samyal, Dr Ashok Gupta and Anju Bansal presented some spiritual songs.
Different dignitaries from Bharat Vikas Parishad, Shantikunj Haridwar, Bhagwan Mahavir Meditation Trust & Meditation Centre (Punjab), Golden Day Care & Recreation Centre for Senior Citizens, Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, Senior Citizens Rejuvenation Centre and Nami Dogri Sanstha were also present.
