SUCHETGARH, July 23: DDC Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony on Friday urged the Irrigation Department to carry out de-silting work of Ranbir Canal as water there is acute scarcity of water at the tail-end of canal giving tough time to farmers during the season of sowing paddy crops.
Tony visited villages Seer, Bolichak, Nanowali, Mana, Hansa, Chakroi, Garani, Kapoorpur, Shekhachak, Haripur, Mokhey, Badayal Qaziyan to Sunderpur in Suchetgarh belt and inspected the canal stretches-the only source of irrigation in the border belt.
He observed that water level is far less than requirement and all the fields at the tail-end are facing acute dearth of water.
He asked Irrigation Department officials to immediately start de-silting work which has not been accomplished properly this season and also demanded to raise the water level at the canal heads near Belicharana so that water level could be maintained upto the tail end of the canal.
“There is no justification that due to one reason or the other tail-end fields are subjected to scarcity of water as it is responsibility of Irrigation Department to ensure that no field in the vicinity is left dry on account of improper de-silting or deliberate lowering of water levels at the upper ends,” he maintained.
The DDC Member said if Irrigation Department ensures 8-feet water level up to Belicharana then the problem can be resolved to a large extent.
He asked the concerned authorities to do the needful as soon as possible so that the farmers at the tail-end of the canal may heave a sigh of relief.
