Taiwan stocks end up 1.76 pct, join Greek relief rally

TAIPEI, June 18: Taiwan stocks closed up 1.76 percent on Monday, joining other Asian bourses in rallying after Greece’s election result calmed fears of global financial turmoil, with tech stocks leading gains at the expense of defensives such as steel and plastics.
The main TAIEX index rose 125.67 points to 7,281.50.
Chip stocks were the top gainers, up 3.04 percent, followed by panel makers up 2.99 percent, while plastics fell 0.96 percent.
The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.072 to trade at T$29.859.
Foreign investors were buyers on Friday, but remain net sellers for the month of T$25.6 billion. (agencies)
