TAIPEI, Nov 23: Taiwan stocks rose 3.1 percent in their biggest one-day percentage rally in almost a year on Friday, supported by news the cabinet will unveil measures to bolster the stock market.
The main TAIEX index ended up 220.25 points at 7,326.01, beating most regional bourses and marking its best one-day percentage gain since early December in 2011.
Tech heavyweights were among the top winners. UMC , the world’s No.2 contract chipmaker, was 7-percent limit up. Bigger rival TSMC surged 4.6 percent. (agencies)
