Taj asks writers to strive for promotion of Gojri language, culture

SRINAGAR, Sept 27: The 2-day Gojri Conference organized by J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages concluded with Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, calling upon writers and intellectuals to strive for promotion of the Gojri language and the community’s tribal identity. He said the community has been striving for their identity for the past several decades and writers and poets have made significant contribution towards this.
The Minister said that the Scheduled Tribe status given to Gujjars has been a significant development that changed the socio economic condition of the community. He welcomed holding of Gojri Conference by the Academy and said such activities help in developing consciousness among people about their culture and language.
The Conference, fifth in the series of language conferences being held by the Academy, was attended by prominent writers, poets, artists, intellectuals and observers from all over the State who deliberated for two days upon various aspects and issues related with Gojri language and literature.
Historian and former legislator, Ch. Gulzar Khatana, in his address, described the conference as a major initiative by the Academy providing a rare opportunity for writers of Gojri to discuss the status of the language and identify challenges and opportunities available for its development.
Dr. A. S. Amn, Additional Secretary, Cultural Academy also spoke about the development of Gojri Language and Literature at the concluding session.
Dr. Javaid Rahi, Chief Editor Gojri, gave a resume of the activities of the Academy in the promotion of Gojri language and culture. He dwelt on the Gojri publication programme of the Academy.
On this occasion, a publication titled ‘Ghulam Hassain Lessanavi -Gujjar Gandhi’ written by Ch. Fazal Hussain Mushtaq was released.
Ch Karam Din Chopra, Gulzar Khatana, Fazal Mushtaq and Majeed Hasrat presented their papers on the concluding day. The session was presided over by Ch Iqbal Azeem, prominent Gojri writer and scholar.
In the evening a musical programme was presented by noted Gojri artists including Ch Bashir Mastana, Begum Jan, Noor-un-Nissa, Razia Begum, Mirza Khan, Mohammed Rafi, Parvez Malik and Shaheen Chowdhary.
