JAMMU, June 6: Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE), Irrigation and Flood Control, Taj Mohi-u-Din today dedicated newly constructed ten thousand Gallon Per Hour (GPH) capacity tube well to the people at Kalu Chak.
Vice Chairperson, J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Scheduled Caste . Swarn Lata, besides Chief Engineer PHE B R Dogra, Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control, Ashwani Sharma, Chief Engineer, Ravi Tawi Irrigation Virender Badyal, SE Hydraulic K. K. Gupta, SE PHE Mr Luthra, and other senior functionaries were also present at the inaugural ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Government was highly concerned about the scarcity of water in Kandi areas, particularly Kathua, Samba and Akhnoor areas. He said a number of schemes have been taken up to provide and augment potable water facilities in these water stressed areas. The Minister also said that the Government was also working on a plan to modernise and revive all the traditional tanks and ponds in Kandhi areas as these have served as highly dependable source of water for the people of these areas since centuries.
He called upon the people to conserve these resources by avoiding pollution creating activities and encroachment in their surroundings.
Later, the Minister reviewed financial and physical achievements of PHE and Irrigation departments under various schemes in Jammu province at separate meetings held at summer secretariat, Jammu.
The Minister asked the functionaries to supply the required material, including specified pipes, at all the ongoing water supply schemes to avoid any delay in their completion and smooth functioning. He also reviewed the progress on surface water scheme filtration plants taken up at across the region.
He directed all divisions to furnish online detailed progress in every scheme to his office on daily basis.
Later, the Minister also reviewed the functioning of Irrigation and Flood Control Department.
