Taj seeks people’s cooperation to develop far-flung areas

POONCH, May 2: Asking the people to extend cooperation to the Government in its development offensive, Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Taj Moh-ud-Din today said that the government is keen to develop backward and far-flung areas of the State.
Addressing a number of public meetings, Mr Taj said Government has embarked upon an ambitious plan of developing areas which could not compete with other areas due to geographical or natural disadvantages.
Mr Taj said water is the biggest natural resource of the state and with the collection of water usage charges the state would become self sufficient in coming years. He said Water Resources Act-2010 enabled the state to consolidate and conserve water resources all the across Jammu and Kashmir.
Responding to the local needs and demands, the Minister said that government is conscious of the difficulties of the people of these far-flung and backward areas and many special schemes and programmes have been devised to match their requirements and needs.
In his address, Vice Chairman Gujjar and Bakerwal Advisory Board, Basher Ahmed Naaz said that the Government has brought people of backward areas on the path of development and sought early completion of schemes and programmes launched for their welfare.
MLC, Jahangir Mir, District Development Commissioner, Poonch, A. K. Sahu, SP, Poonch, Shamsher Hussain, Chief Engineer PHE, Jammu, B. R. Dogra and other officers of district administration accompanied the Minister.
During the visit the Minister inspected several water supply and irrigation schemes and took stock of their functioning.
