SAMBA, Sept 1: Congress Sewa Dal (CSD) has urged upon the Governor Satya Pal Malik to take action against the industries in Samba, which are creating pollution by not following/implementing required pollution norms.
Addressing a press conference at Vijaypur, Raj Kumar Bhagat, district president, Congress Seva Dal said that at the time of setting up of Industrial Growth Centre at Samba, it was promised that 90% jobs will be provided to the local youth and it will be the responsibility of industries to provide the vocational training to the educated local youth.
He said it was also settled that the industries will set the equipments/infrastructure/pollution control devices within the industries to prevent the pollution but on ground no such terms and conditions have been implemented. Bhagat said that the industries have engaged maximum skilled as well as unskilled workers from outside the State and engaged the contractor for providing labour.
Raj Kumar Bhagat said that the contractors ate the maximum benefits being provided to the labourer as per Labour Laws and also do not provide wages to them as per Labour Law.
“Moreover, the industries have not set up pollution control devices for prevention of pollution and as a result the adjoining areas as well as Basanter River is getting polluted due to discharge of industrial waste. Many farmers have succumbed due to pollution as their agriculture land has become barren,” he said, and added that Pollution Control Board is silent despite that many farmers and people of adjoining areas apprised them of blatant violation of pollution laws.
Regarding non-implication of engagement pattern of labour and skill workers in the industries, Bhagat said that the matter was taken up with concerned ministry in previous Government but nothing was done in this connection.
He appealed Governor SP Malik to pass directions to the concerned authorities to take action against the industries which are not following pollution norms and remove contractor regime from the industries so that local youth may get employment in these industries.
