Take care of mentally sick girls home: Forum to Guv

JAMMU, Oct 5: The Citizen’s Forum has appealed the Governor Satya Pal Malik to look into the needs of the mentally retarded girl’s home in Jammu city.
In a press statement here today, R K Chadha, president of the Forum said that these unfortunate girls were looked after by the NGOs like Inner Wheel and Rotary Club Ladies besides through Government’s assistance, but with the passage of time and unbearable costs of living and some other time bound problems from Government departments, the living condition of the girls is deteriorating for the last several years.
Mr Chadha further said that these girls not only need food and shelter, but proper medical care and daily personal hygiene and upkeep. They are needed to be taken care of only by the female attendants, -cooks, Safai Karamcharis and other help. Some years back, one of the girls had been raped by some one inside the home, and the Citizen’s Forum had taken the issue strongly with the Government and Law and Order authorities but the position is still vulnerable there.
He said the female members of Inner Wheel and Rotary Club Jammu besides women from some other good families of Jammu city came forward again to take care of these children/ girls but are feeling helpless without proper arrangements to do this job of humanity. They with the help of some top retired officers had tried to collect some funds for the upkeep of this Home but found it difficult to manage things. Forum requested the Governor to help the inmates of this Home.
