Take innovative steps for revamping JAKFED: Dorjey

SRINAGAR, Aug 23: Minister for Cooperatives and Ladakh Affairs, Chering Dorjey has called upon the Jammu and Kashmir Supply and Marketing Federation (JAKFED) to take innovative measures for making the organization vibrant and more commercial.
Reviewing the functioning of the organization at a high level officers meeting, the Minister underscored the need for commercialization of more products through the organization which he said would help in improving the financial health of the organization.
Secretary Cooperatives, Hemant Kumar Sharma, Registrar Cooperatives, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Managing Director JAKFED, Bilal Ahmad Bhat besides other senior officers of JAKFED attended the meeting.
During the meeting deliberations were held on various matters for making the organization profitable and people friendly. The meeting took several decisions to expand the business of the JAKFED with an aim to make it more vibrant.
It was decided in the meeting that the management of JAKFED would approach Border Road Organisation (BRO) for supply of bitumen from the JAKFED for marcadamization of roads in Ladakh region.
Regarding pending salaries, liabilities and CPF of the employees of the organization which has gone to the extent of Rs. 13.75 crore till ending July this year, the meeting decided that same should be adjusted against the internal business activities.
The meeting also decided that all the non performing assets (Dormant) of JAKFED should be revamped and rehabilitated to diversify activities on demand and supply basis.
The meeting was also informed that JAKFED is presently thrusting upon business activities at Leh and Jammu, besides LPG distribution system besides operating in Kashmir Division on minimum capacity utilization.
It was also informed in the meeting that JAKFED has identified areas for controlled atmosphere storage of fruits at Ashojipora at Leh and cold chain storage for vegetables at Miran Sahib.
