Taking care of elders

Sir,
It pains me when I see  the elders abandoned by their children who think they are only a burden and are of no use. The  growing number of old age homes in the cities speaks of our narrow mentality. We forget about all the sacrifices made by them for us and leave them to live a miserable life. One must not forget that money is not everything in life and what treatment we give  to our elders we   receive the same when  our turn arrives.
The old age brings with it a number of problems and elders need all kind of our support and above all love of all those for whom they sacrificed throughout their life.
Some days back as I visited a medical shop I was surprised when I saw a very old woman coming lonely to the medical shop without money and asking for medicines. When I asked her where are her relatives she replied that now she was an abandoned item waiting for her death.
This is not only her plight but majority of our  elders. Busy in our own hectic life schedule we don’t even get time to speak few words to  them. All this is against our cultural ethos and values. We must understand that our  elders are storehouses of experience. We need  their guidance and best wishes and not their  curses.
