Reasi, Mar 20: Demanding implementation of Supreme Court judgment to provide them relief at par with Kashmiri migrants, Talwara migrants today held a strong protest demonstration at Talwara bridge and blocked the highway connecting Reasi with Poonch.
The protesting migrants, including women and children, were raising slogans and also demanding balance of Rs 21 crores arrears due to them between 2004 to 2007 as was admitted by the State Government before the Supreme Court of India during the hearing of petition filed by the Panthers Party seeking relief to the Jammu migrants at par with Kashmiri migrants.
Prof Bhim Singh, who joined the migrants in their road-blocked dharna, expressed deep shock on the hostile attitude of the State Government towards the Dogra migrants in spite of several orders and judgments of the Supreme Court of India.
Prof Singh alleged that the State Government was playing hide and seek with the orders of the Apex Court and rather has committed contempt of the SC while the High Court could not take action on its own orders to provide relief to the Jammu migrants in 2009.
Prof Bhim Singh further warned the State and Central Governments of serious consequences if the Jammu migrants were not provided relief as directed by the Supreme Court. He said that relief of Kashmiri migrants has been raised four times in 12 years where as the Jammu migrants have been paid the same relief which they were getting 12 year back. Kashmiri migrants have been provided housing facilities, jobs for their children and schooling for their kids where as no such facility has been given to the Jammu migrants, he added.
Others who addressed the migrants protest included Anita Thakur and Balwan Singh.
