Tara Chand, Bhalla inspect JMC works

Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla inspecting developmental works at Jammu on Friday
JAMMU, Nov 2: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand along with Minister for Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla today toured different parts of the city and took stock of various works under taken by Jammu Municipal Corporation.
While inspecting progress at Sunjwan BSUP project, the Ministers showed dissatisfaction at the construction site and directed the concerned officers to speed up the pace of work so that the project gets completed within the fixed time frame.
Underscoring need to complete various undergoing development works, the Deputy Chief Minister called upon the authorities to ensure time line completion of the works besides making sure that highest level of quality standards are maintained during execution.
“Redouble your working schedules and put up extra efforts to complete the project well within the stipulated time frame”, he directed the executing agency, adding that providing residential facility to slum dwellers is priority of the Government.
Stressing on redoubling of efforts, Mr. Tara Chand set November 10 as the dead line for completion of Phase-I, so as to ensure that the beneficiaries are allotted the completed four blocks. He also passed instructions for completion of next phase by January 15, 2013 and directed the JMC to explore options of new project on the land available at the site.
Mr. Raman Bhalla while projecting the demands of the people of the area called attention towards the non-availability of street lights on Bhatindi-Sunjwan main road.
Taking cognizance of the demand, the Deputy Chief Minister on the spot passed directions to the Commissioner, JMC for sanctioning of sodium lights to be installed in the area.
Later, the Ministers visited Kunjwani area and inspected various works undertaken by the corporation for beautification and providing basic civic amenities in the area.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that Kunjwani Chowk is entry point of the city and all efforts should be made for face lifting and beautification of the point. He directed for initiating the process to name the chowk after great leader and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Showing concern on illegal constructions and encroachments, the Ministers called for joint effort of different departments to make sure that menace of encroachment is curbed.
Taking strong note of illegal hoardings on road sides, Mr. Tara Chand issued instructions to the officers of JMC for ensuring prompt removal of all unauthorised billboards. He said to check the menace of illegal hoardings a drive has to be launched and only those displays would be allowed which have been put up by the authorized agency.
Mr. Bhalla asked the JMC to undertake special sanitation drive in the Kunjwani area and ensure that municipal services are provided to the people on a regular and efficient manner. He asked the locals to help JMC in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the area. Commissioner, JMC K.L. Khajuria and senior level officers and engineers accompanied during the tour.
