Tara Chand flays BJP for smart meters, other issues

JAMMU, Aug 30: Senior Congress leader and former Dy. CM, Tara Chand has asked the J&K government to revisit its decision of installing smart meters.
He said that that the government should take senior departmental officials, elected public representatives, heads of various social and political organizations on board to find an amicable way to meet aspirants of electricity consumers.
Addressing a public meeting at Jourian-Khour, near here today Chand said that Jammu is consuming less electricity but generating more revenue but the government has decided to install smart meters in Jammu, which speaks about discriminatory policies against Jammu.
He further said that due to unprecedented price rise and record unemployment, especially in J&K, all sections of the society have suffered.
“Lakhs of educated youth are without jobs in J&K while the daily wagers, need based, contractual and other temporary employees are protesting for their regularization,” the Congress leader maintained.
He said that Congress will create awareness among general public about failure of the government for not restoring Statehood to J&K.
“Jammu has witnessed huge setbacks due to the revocation of Statehood but the BJP government is suppressing political and civil rights,” he continued.
Tara Chand said that Congress is the only truly secular, democratic and progressive force which can keep J&K on the path of peace, progress and harmony.
