Tara Chand reviews development works

JAMMU, May 4: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today took a high level meeting to review the status of different development works launched in rural and border belts.
A detailed appraisal of both physical and financial achievements of different sectoral schemes and projects was taken in the marathon meeting.
Preparedness of various line departments to meet public requirements in the ensuing summer season was also reviewed in detail during the meeting.
District development Commissioner, Jammu A.K. Sahu, SDM, Akhnoor N.S. Jamwal, ACD, Jammu K.K. Sidha, senior engineers of PWD, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, PHE, GREF, PDD and officers from police, revenue, rural development, agriculture and education departments attended the meeting at Aechal Malal.
Stressing on time bound completion of projects, Tara Chand enjoined upon the sectoral officers of different departments to maintain work calendars and ensure that all undertaken projects get completed within stipulated time frame.
He said the Government with active support from the Central Government has launched mega infrastructure projects in the state and time line completion of these prestigious projects would effectively address development aspirations of the people of the state. It is foremost duty of the officers to gear up their men and machinery to ensure that all undertaken projects get completed timely, he added.
Laying stress on maintaining quality standards in development projects, the Deputy Chief Minister directed that ambitious projects have been launched in different sectors and highest level of quality has to be ensured while executing these projects. Public money has to be spent with utmost care and all the executing departments should take utmost care while executing, he added.
“A committee headed by ADDC has already been framed for the purpose of random checking of quality of the works and to take samples for testing and to ensure proper testing at the site of ongoing work a mobile testing laboratory should also be established,” he directed.
Detailed review of status of Jourian and Kaleeth road was taken and GREF authorities were directed to work in double shifts and ensure timely completion to the prestigious road projects, as the roads are life lines for the people of the area.
Calling for establishing joint control room at the block level, Tara Chand directed the district administration to ensure that a well connected control room is set up for effective and timely redressal of public grievances.
Reviewing the progress of various schemes launched to address employment needs of the youth, the Deputy Chief Minister said that progress of different schemes like SKEWPY, Udaan and Himayat has not been up to the mark. He passed instructions to the SDM for organizing awareness camps in the area so that more and more people come forward to get themselves registered under these programs.
Later, Tara Chand along with the team of officers visited the sites which are prone to flood and directed that timely arrangements.
