KATHUA, Dec 25: Addressing teachers conference, organized by United School Teachers Association (USTA), here today, CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said that the emotional outrage at national level against the gang rape was quite justifiable and these brutal crimes can be stopped only if the Government is forced to act firmly against the perpetrators of such heinous crimes.
Referring to the demands of the teachers and the problems being faced by them, Tarigami explained that poor salaries, limited growth opportunities and lower job satisfaction level compared to what are available in the private and corporate sectors are keeping top talents out of teaching profession. He urged both Centre and the State Governments to chalk out a comprehensive plan to redress the long pending grievances and genuine problems being faced by the teaching community.
Sham Prasad Kesar, senior leader of CPI(M) while addressing the conference, called for broader unity among teachers. He blamed neo-liberal policies of the Government, which are adversely affecting the interests of this community.
Others who spoke on the occasion include Hans Raj Shastri, Ravinder Singh, Rashpal Singh, Ram Dass, Noor Alam and Rattan Singh Pathania.
They threw light on various challenges prevailing in education system and highlighted the need of maintaining the quality of education in schools.
