SRINAGAR, Oct 7: CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami today described the Israel-Palestine conflict as an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, urging people worldwide to intervene and stop Israel’s offensive against Palestine before the situation escalates further.
During a protest at his Gupkar residence marking one year since the Gaza war, he expressed deep concern over the devastation and loss of life in Palestine and Lebanon. “Palestinians are being subjected to brutal attacks, and now the flames of war have spread to Lebanon,” he said. He described the war as genocide of the Palestinian people and stressed that the violence is not just a matter of politics or religion but an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
He condemned the United Nations for not doing enough to stop the bloodshed. “America is not only silent; it is adding fuel to the fire, enabling Israel to continue its relentless aggression,” he said. The leader warned that Israel is expanding the conflict, targeting Iran, Lebanon, Yemen, and Syria, while falsely framing it as a religious war between Jews and Muslims. “This is not a religious war. The Palestinians are fighting for their national rights, their very existence,” he said.
He urged people from all walks of life-intellectuals, journalists, farmers, and workers-to rise up and call for peace. “We cannot wait any longer. This war will not stop in Palestine and Lebanon. It could reach anywhere next. The world must come together to extinguish this fire before it consumes more lives.”
He also pointed out that the conflict is not just targeting Muslims, but Christians and others, noting that even Jews in Europe are joining protests, demanding an end to the genocide. “This war affects all of humanity. We must raise our voices and stop it before it’s too late,” he said.
