SRINAGAR, Nov 12: Asserting that the society cannot afford to spoil the future generation of Jammu and Kashmir, senior CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today urged the State Government to analyze the situation responsible for the unrest among the youth in the Valley.
Calling them wayward and misled is neither correct nor helpful in addressing the problems of our younger generation, Mr Tarigami, the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Kulgam, said.
Referring to the recent killing of a youth in police teargas shelling, Mr Tarigami urged the state machinery to exercise utmost restraint while dealing with the law and order.
Due to political uncertainty, conflict environment and huge unemployment, our youth are disillusioned and in today’s environment of hopelessness resort to protests. The administration should however avoid the use of excessive force, he said.
The Government should frame a comprehensive youth policy which must focus on the redressal of their grievances, professional training, sports facilities and of course employment, the MLA said.
Interaction, discussion and consultation should be adopted to address their alienation; lathicharge, tear gas shelling; firing and arrest are not an option. Imprisonment, torture and killing of youth will prove counterproductive and will spoil the future generation on which our hopes rest, he added.
