JAMMU, Mar 7: CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today demanded regularization of National Youth Corps.
During his address in the House, Mr Tarigami said it was unfortunate that despite assurances by the Government time and again the demands of the NYC volunteers were yet to be fulfilled and these assurances needed to be corroborated by the practical measures on the part of the Government.
Urging upon the Government, he said, “their services warrant justice through the process of regularization without any further delay”.
Terming the use of force to quell the protesting NYC volunteers as an indicator of non-serious and apathetic approach of the Government to address pending demands of NYC volunteers engaged on merit basis by the Government in the State, he said, “8000 NYC volunteers in which 7700 were registered with the State Government and 300 with the Government of India”
The CPI (M) leader flayed the Government for adopting a discriminatory attitude towards these volunteers whose nature of job was similar to those working as regular employees in the Government.
“The period of their engagement as per the policy may have culminated but given the quality of service offered by the NYC youth, the Government must ensure the services of these unemployed youth continue under a new comprehensive policy that can have safeguards for their future,” Mr Tarigami said and also demanded conversion of their monthly honorarium to a full-fledged salary.
PDP MLAs sought a direction to the Government from the House regarding the breaking of window panes and doors of mosques by the security forces in Pulwama, Anantnag and other areas of Kashmir.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, PDP MLAs Syed Bashir, Abdul Rehman Veeri and Rafi Mir termed the claims made by the Government totally hollow.
Syed Bashir asked is Government helpless in this too?
Rafi Mir while expressing concern said news channels and internet have been banned and stressed that directions be given to Government.
Supporting them agitated Abdul Rehman Veeri said the window panes of houses and mosques have been broken in Anantnag, Bijebehara and Srinagar and situation is grave. Even the national channels are being banned, he added.
The situation is going out of control day by day and the MLAs have to face people, he said.
The Party MLA Choudhary Zulfkar however staged the walkout for not being allowed to take part in Zero Hour by Speaker.
Javed Mustafa Mir raised the issue of release of funds in favour of Madarsas and said that Government has included all such institutions in the list which have actually not received the assistance at all.
Ashwani Kumar Sharma demanded regularization of PDD daily wagers and Home Guard volunteers as per the assurances given by the Government.
Abdul Rehman Veeri and Syed Bashir Ahmed raised the issue of harassment of people by the security forces in the Valley, especially during the night hours. They sought immediate action to check such incidents.
