SRINAGAR, Dec 7: CPI (M) State Secretary, Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami has criticized the State Government’s decision to increase transport fares, saying that it will put more burden on the people who are already suffering a great deal because of all-round price rise.
In a statement issued here today, Tarigami said the lower and middle income groups would be the worst hit by the increase in transport fares as only people with limited means travel by public transport. He said the Government should find out the reasons responsible for the losses being suffered by the transporters.
“The hike in transport fare is totally one-sided, arbitrary and unjustified. The decision has been taken at a time when skyrocketing prices of essential commodities have pushed the people to the brink. The decision is deplorable and it should be opposed tooth and nail by all the people,” said Tarigami.
