JAMMU, Feb 26: CPM MLA Mohd Yousaf Tarigami today put the Government in the dock over the dismal performance of the Provident Fund Organization and said that those managing the affairs of the Organization were harassing the subscribers on one pretext or the other.
Raising the supplementary to his question in the Legislative Assembly, Mr Tarigami remarked, “it seems that Government has no control over the Provident Fund Organization as those managing its affairs are least bothered about performing their duties efficiently”, adding “there are general complaints that the account statements of the subscribers are not updated regularly and interests on the deposits of the subscribers have not been calculated during the past several years”.
“It is astonishing that computerization of records is under process during the last 10 years but the exercise has yet not been completed thereby creating numerous problems for the subscribers in getting updated annual account statements”, CPM MLA said.
He sought to know from the Labour and Employment Minister, Ajay Sadhotra as to what was the difficulty in providing interest to the subscribers at the Government of India rate and demanded that account statements of the subscribers should be made on-line for easy access by the subscribers.
Mr Sadhotra, while replying to the queries of the CPM MLA, said that a proposal for revising the rate of interest is being included in the agenda of the ensuing meeting of Board of Trustees.
