SRINAGAR, June 6: CPI (M) State Secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today said Public-Private-Partnership in power sector is in no way a viable solution to the power crisis in the State, saying handing over the power sector to private players is bound to cause tremendous hardship to the hapless consumers who have been so far hit hard by the back breaking policies of the authorities concerned.
Addressing a public meeting at Nihama in south Kashmir, Tarigami said instead of having a comprehensive policy to address the electricity crisis affecting day-to-day life in the state, the administration was always seeking to put onus of the power crisis over the hapless consumers blaming them for non-payments of bills without realizing shortage of power and huge transmission losses is beyond the control of general public.
“The latest proposal seeking private players’ role in power generation and distribution will push consumers into an unreasonable, unaccountable and impassive system of power distribution and supply, where the poor would be the least served,” he said.
