Task Force on declining sex-ratio constituted

JAMMU, July 18: The State Government has set up a 10-member Task Force under Chief Secretary, involving top officers from various departments to study various aspects and advise the Government on the serious issue of declining sex-ratio in the State.
Chief Secretary will be the chairman of the Task Force while Secretary Health and Medical Education will be the convener. Secretary Social Welfare Department, Divisional Commissioners Kashmir and Jammu, Directors Health Services Kashmir & Jammu, Mission Director NRHM J&K and two Deputy Commissioners from Anantnag and Udhampur have been nominated as the other members.
An official spokesman said that Task Force will comprehensively address all aspects concerning declining sex ratio and in particular child sex-ratio in the State. The ‘Force’ will advise Government on policy issues related to PC&PNDT Act and its implementation. It will review and monitor PC&PNDT Act and MTP Act and recommend changes wherever required and also design strategies involving general public in curbing practices of female foeticide and encourage public to inform enforcement agencies of such mal-practices.
