NEW DELHI, Jun 11:
The Government today suspended Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) CMD VRS Natarajan following a recommendation by the CBI that he should be kept away from the post to ensure fair investigation into various charges against him.
“The government has put the CMD of BEML VRS Natarajan under suspension following a recommendation by the CBI that he should be kept away from the post to ensure fair investigation,” Defence Ministry spokesperson Sitanshu Kar said in a statement.
Mr Natarajan was questioned by the premier probe agency in connection with the alleged irregularities in BEML-Tatra trucks deal.
The charge of CMD has been given to P Dwarkanath, the senior most functional Director in BEML.
The Defence Ministry had also sought an explanation from Mr Natarajan as to why he served a legal notice on former Army chief General V K Singh without its clearance.
Mr Natarajan had demanded an apology for Gen Singh’s allegedly defamatory statements against BEML on supply of Tatra trucks.
Gen (retd) Singh had alleged in March that he was offered a Rs 14 crore bribe to clear the purchase of 600 Tatra trucks from BEML.
He had alleged that the bribe was offered by Lt Gen (retd) Tejinder Singh on behalf of Ravi Rishi, whose Tatra Sipox UK supplies the trucks to BEML, which in turn sells it to the Army. (UNI)
