POONCH, June 1: For the review of the functioning of cross-LoC-trade activities and to provide conducive atmosphere for traders to enhance their trade on both sides and also for resolving some disputes, a joint meeting of officers and officials from both sides was held here at Chakan-da-Bagh trade point today.
Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Mohammad Harun Malik, Additional Superintendent of Police, Custodian LoC trade Mohammad Tanvir and other officials were present there. From PoK side Director General Trade and Travel, Brigadier (Retd) Imtiaz Ahmed Wani, Custodian TFC PoK, others officials related with cross LoC trade participated in the meeting.
The issues creating unnecessary hurdles and which discourage trade and its related activities were discussed in a detailed manner with officers and officials from other side, and it was agreed to encourage cross LoC trade activities by throwing out all odds which later comes in the way of strengthening the CBMs and improving trade and its related activities in the region.
Deputy Commissioner, Poonch while highlighting the benefits of cross LoC trade activities said, that it’s benefits go beyond commercial gains as part of CBMs measures and it must not be discouraged. The meeting agreed to bring more fairness in trade and the items should be kept in exhibition on both side of LoC so that accessibility is ensured and transparency maintained.
It was further decided that items which are traded at Uri LoC trade but have not been so for traded via Chakkan-Da-Bagh henceforth also be included for trading activities in future for larger interest of traders.
The officers also agreed in the meeting, to have one more meet to iron out all the differences for the smooth functioning of trade. The meeting further informed that in the coming days “Tatta Pani” crossing point will also be opened for trade and travel facilities for both sides of LoC.
