JAMMU, Jan 3:  Showing their commitment to make people aware of importance of  river Tawi and in  continuance of their selfless efforts in preserving the river Tawi,  the activists of Tawi Andolan took out   motor expedition here today.
The Tawi motor expedition was flagged off  by convenor of  Tawi Andolan  Chander Mohan Sharma,  senior leader BJP in presence of  Prof Bhola Nath Sharma, Prof  BL Bhardwaj and others.
Addressing the participants  Chander Mohan Sharma called upon the Government to expedite river Tawi development work immediately. He said there is need of immediate diversion of all filthy drains falling in the river.
Mr Sharma said that Government should involve civil societies into the planning, development and   rejuvenation of the river Tawi. The bond and the sentiment of the civil society is more stronger with  Suraj Putri Tawi than the bureaucrats  and experts.
The Government should keep in mind that it was bureaucracy which allowed a section of society to grab the basin of the river.
Moreover, it was again neglectful attitude of Administration to allow Tawi become a dustbin. Mr Sharma urged upon Dr Nirmal Singh, Deputy Chief Minister J&K  to call upon a meeting of members of civil society and prominent environmentalists before formulating a comprehensive plan for development of Tawi and rejuvenation of the river    from its origin i.e Kaplash Kund to its merger point with river Chenab.
