JAMMU, July 20: Independent Corporator of Ward Number 19, Amit Gupta today said that due to construction of Artificial Lake in Tawi River in Jammu, the River water is entering in the houses in nearby mohallas.
Addressing a press conference here today, Amit Gupta along with social activist Charanjeet Singh said that may people living in mohallas nearby Artificial lake, particularly in low lying areas, have to spend whole night in the open yesterday as their houses were washed away by the Tawi River water which entered into their mohallas.
He said Tawi River is very narrow in the area where the Artificial Lake is being constructed and as a result of this, Tawi River water is entering in nearby mohallas in case of heavy rains. Gupta said he had warned beforehand to the concerned agencies that the site of the Artificial Lake is not suitable but no heed was paid to his concern and now, poor people are suffering due to the wrong decision of the concerned agencies.
Gupta further lambasted the Jammu Municipal Corporation for water logging in most of the areas during recent rains, stating that most of the ‘nallahas’ has been choked and as a result of this, rain water entered into the houses and shops of the people. He said that on the name of ‘Smart City’, money is being burn on different developmental works but the quality of the work is not up to the mark.
