JAMMU, Dec 6: Tawi Welfare Society (TWS) organized five-day free eye cataract surgery camp at Apnavan Sure Chak (Jammu) in collaboration with Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar under the guidance of Dr Rajeev Sharma (Director Health Services) and Dr Rakesh Mangotra (Medical Superintendent, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar).
Kulbir Singh (Commandant, 18th Battalion IRP) was the chief guest on the occasion. He inaugurated the camp by lighting the ceremonial lamp. In his address, Kulbir Singh lauded the role of volunteers of TWS for helping the needy and underprivileged section of society.
During the camp, the OPD was conducted by a team of doctors consisting of Dr Kamal Gupta, Dr Pramila, Dr Nirupama Dogra, Dr Shekhar Sharma, Dr Bala in assistance with paramedical staff from Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar.
Dr Sumir Koul (BMO) and his team from CHC Sohanjana also contributed their bit for the camp. Around 232 patients were screened and out of which 54 cases of Cataract were selected for surgery. Col Arvind Kumar (Commandant, 15 Field Ammunition Depot) provided cots for the patients.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Geetu Aulakh (Member, DDC Jammu), Sonamdeep Singh (Sarpanch), Col Som Nath (Sarpanch), Col Arvind Kumar, Joginder Singh (ASI, Police Post Phallain), Sodagar Singh Saini and Subash Chander (former sarpanchs), Yash Paul Mangotra (general secretary of TWS) and Nand Kishore.
