Taxi operators demand introduction of App based service in J&K

JAMMU, July 3: Jammu Province Tourist Taxi Operators’ Federation (JPTTOF) today demanded the Government to start App based Tax service in J&K so that local taxi operators can generate additional local business and public get benefit of the online service.

Addressing a press conference, leaders of the Federation including Inderjeet Sharma (chairman), Anchal Singh Manhas (President) and Gurdeep Singh (general secretary) said that COVID-19 has hit almost all business segments in India. “Though in unlock phases, few businesses have started taking shape again but tourism trade is unlikely to recover in the months to come,” they added.
Inderjeet Sharma said that taxies serving exclusively to incoming tourists should be classified as ‘Tourist Taxies’ and a census of registered tourist taxies should be made with the assistance of recognized tourist taxi associations of J&K. He said that royalties/rents of various taxi stands being charged by different authorities should be waived off for the year 2020 and 2021.
Anchal Singh Manhas said that Government should announce one time exgratia relief for all the registered tourist taxies of J&K and waived off all taxes like token tax, passenger tax as well as permit and fitness renewal fee for the year 2020 and 2021. He further said that Government should make some mechanism to treat COVID period as zero period for insurance purposes and vehicle insurance should be extended by at least one year.
“In view of public requirements and keeping pace with national and international standards and simultaneously keeping in view the interests of suffering taxi operators, an App based Taxi service is required in J&K and preference should be given to Jammu province Tourist Taxi Operators’ Federation to start this pilot project at the earliest for the convenience of tourists as well a s general public,” said Gurdeep Singh.
He demanded that a piece of land kept reserved in ISBT Narwal for Taxi Stand by JDA should be allotted to Federation to be used for App based Taxi service.
