According to the protesting taxi drivers, a barrier to stop the mini-vehicles for taxes is being raised on one of the entrances of the Jammu Tawi Railway Station by some influential contractors against the will of the taxi drivers.
They said the top officials of the District Administration, including DC Jammu, SSP Jammu, and SDM concerned, have been apprised about the issue and they have ordered to stop the construction work on the barrier but the contractors are not paying any heed to the orders of the authorities.
The taxi operators said they are not against the payment to the Railway authorities for the usage of their land but against the installation of the barrier.
“We will continue to pay the Railway authorities under an existing system but we won’t let any contractor raise a barrier here to mint money from the taxi operators,” one of the taxi operators said.
He said the taxi operators have no problem with the ongoing beautification and the levelling work of the Jammu Tawi Railway Station.
Rather, he said, the taxi operators have been cooperating with the authorities by parking their vehicles on one side of the Railway Station.
“But some influential contractors have been forcibly raising a barrier on one of the entrances of the Railway Station. We will never allow that happen,” he added, while requesting for the further intervention of the authorities to stop the construction work.
