Taxi operators slam Railway authorities for disconnecting power, water connections

JAMMU, Sept 16: Taxi Operators’ Union, Railway Station Jammu today slammed the railway authorities for disconnecting their power and water connections.
Addressing a press conference here today, leaders of Taxi Operators’ Union said that the Railway authorities have been using pressure tactics to bow the Taxi operators before them as they were objecting to privatization of the Jammu Tawi Railway Station Taxi Stand.
The Union leaders said that the taxi and auto operators are ready to provide monthly tax to the parking contractor instead of daily and Railway authorities also agreed on the issue but they are against a barrier which is being raised on one of the entrances of the Railway Station to stop the mini-vehicles for taxies.
“We are not against the payment to the Railway authorities for the usage of their land but against the installation of the barrier. We will continue to pay the Railway authorities under an existing system but we won’t let any contractor raise a barrier here to mint money from the taxi operators,” they asserted.
The leaders of the Taxi Union alleged that while all the railway officers are cooperating with them, one of the officers is adopting every pressure tactics to vent out his anger on us and therefore, he has managed to disconnect our water and power connections.
“Water and power are basic needs of every individual and nobody can snatch these basic things from us just to pressurize us,” they said adding, we are righting in this connection to Human Rights Commission as water and electricity are our basic rights.
